Diagnostic Services Overview

Radiology Department

A team of four Radiographers in addition to a Healthcare Assistant an Administrative Assistant, and a team of Bank Radiographers provide a high quality diagnostic imaging service to all patients and departments within the hospital, as well as providing Outpatient and GP services to both private patients and patients referred from the NHS.

The radiologists who make up the Salisbury Radiology Group pride themselves on being dynamic and progressive, covering all radiological specialities. We have three musculoskeletal radiologists, specialised breast radiologists, and radiologists who specialise in gastroenterology and gynaecological related conditions.

The Radiology Department at New Hall Hospital are able to offer the following services:


General Radiography

All General Radiography Examinations

Barium Meals

X-ray guided injections for pain relief including foraminal and facet injections

Rhysolysis

Ultrasound

General ultrasound is undertaken by the Consultant Radiologists, Monday – Friday every week and includes abdominal, thyroid, breast, and musculoskeletal scanning. The day your appointment can take place depends on the speciality required. 

Ultrasound guided biopsies are performed by the Consultant Radiologists throughout the week. 

Our resident podiatrists Mr Lyndon Jones, and Miss Claire Freeman undertake ultrasound guided injections for their patients usually on a Tuesday and Friday afternoon.

Doppler (veins) - scans are carried out by our visitng Senior Vascular Radiographer  in conjunction with the Consultant Vascular Surgeon Mr C Ranabaldo every Tuesday afternoon.

Obstetric and gynaecological scanning undertaken by our senior visiting ultrasonographers is carried out on a Monday and Wednesday afternoon from 5.00pm and gynaecological scanning by our Consultant Radiologist Dr Sarah Cook every Thursday afternoon from 2.30pm.

MRI Scans

Ramsay Imaging provides a mobile service which is present at the hospital 3 days a week, usually on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Appointments are available from 8.00am - 7.20pm and are booked by Radiology with a referral from your Consultant.  This service is operated by highly trained radiographers employed by Ramsay Diagnostics.

Private (self-pay) GP referrals can be sent to the Radiology department directly, and do not require a Consultant referral. Privately insured patients referred by their GP may require authorisation from their insurer before an appointment can be booked. 

 

CT service

New Hall Hospital currently provides a state of the art Mobile CT scanning service once a month on a Friday. Appointments are available from 8.15am - 7.30pm and are booked by Radiology with a referral from your Consultant.


Enquiries

For general radiography and for some ultrasound examinations, the department can see patients the very same day with the results being immediately available.  The department is able to see patients within a week for all other appointments that require preparations or a specialised radiologist.

The department is open 5 days a week:

Monday to Thursday 8.30am - 7.30pm

Friday 8.30am – 6.30pm
