Meet Alessio Biagini, Head of Clinical Services at New Hall Hospital
Can you tell me about your role and your place in the team?
I am part of the senior management team; my role is head of clinical services. I’m in charge of everything that has direct patient contact, including wards, theatres, pre op and pharmacy. It was a great chance for progression for me to join Ramsay.
What attracted you to come and work at Ramsay?
I worked for the NHS trust previously. My background is surgical nursing. So coming to Ramsay I could see we have some great surgeons, and there is lots of innovation from a spinal perspective too. I was contacted through LinkedIn. I came down and did an informal meeting and discussed the development. It’s treated like a family. Everyone works together, and coming from a big NHS trust it’s beautiful to see. The thing that attracted me the most is Ramsay being a global company. There is so much potential in my future with the company extending all over the world. It would be nice to work somewhere abroad if the opportunity arose.
What has kept you here?
I’ve been here at New Hall around 2 months. It’s nice to see that the company has invested in the site. It’s encouraging for Ramsay to invest this amount of money. There are also lots of opportunities for development. The Ramsay academy is very good, and education plays a big part in me wanting to stay with Ramsay
What do you enjoy most about your role?
The family feeling. You get to know everyone quickly. Everyone is friendly and so willing to help. I’m pretty visible and there’s been a good response to this. I always appreciate that from people in leadership roles so try to display this in my own behaviour.
Do you feel Ramsay supports its employees in accessing training and development opportunities to progress their careers? Any personal examples?
Yes, definitely. I have aspiration to become a Hospital Director, and have always wanted to learn more about working in a business. I feel like Ramsay is a good place to do this. At the moment I can’t see myself anywhere else.
What makes New Hall a special place to work, and how would you describe the culture?
We remember that we are here for the patients. We want to provide a smooth transition through each stage of their journey with us. I like the closeness of how everyone works too. There isn’t a split. Everyone works cohesively at every single level and we care for each other as much as we care for our patients.
What benefits will the new development bring to New Hall?
It’s exciting from a business perspective as it will attract new people to come and work with us.The development will be proof that we are one of the busiest spinal centres, from a volume perspective. It’s a form of acknowledgement that New Hall is a big hospital to work for, and we want to be at the top.
Are there any particular moments you’ve experienced or individuals you’ve worked with that stand out to you?
Everyone stands out to me. The cohesion and the way we work together to care for our patients.
We really value our people at Ramsay Health Care, tell us how you benefit from this culture in your work life balance with us?
Receiving life assurance and having private medical insurance is not something that was provided anywhere I worked before. It’s the safety of it being there if you ever need it.
