Meet Jason Hopkins, Endoscopy Decontamination Lead at New Hall Hospital

Can you tell me about your role and your place in the team?

I am the Endoscopy Decontamination Lead and I work in sterile services.

What attracted you to come and work at Ramsay?

I had never worked in healthcare before I came here. I came from Café Nero; I did catering and hospitality at college. It was a big punt.

What has kept you here?

It’s like working in a big family. You know everyone, it’s a lovely atmosphere. Because we are such a small team we work together so well. It’s great teamwork.

If it’s decent staff you work with, you can have a good laugh at the right times and it makes you want to come to work. I feel like work performance is better if you are happy. There are perks to working here too. If you work hard, you are rewarded for it.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I like learning the process of how a hospital works, and how important sterile services is to theatres. It’s important that Ramsay is always thinking patient first, having the patients in mind, doing the best to make sure they have everything for their treatment. We make sure the patient comes first.

Do you feel Ramsay supports its employees in accessing training and development opportunities to progress their careers? Any personal examples?

They do provide a lot of development opportunities. The courses I have been on have been very good. They allowed me the opportunity to learn something new.

What benefits will the new development bring to New Hall?

More operations can help with the backlog and the waiting list of patients
