Meet Jing De Leon, Senior Staff Nurse at New Hall Hospital

Can you tell me about your role and your place in the team?

I will have been here at New Hall for 18 years in August. I started out as a Staff Nurse. After 2 years I became a Senior Staff Nurse, and will be a Sister when I start my new role this year.

I look after the Ward, making sure the care is delivered safely. I overlook junior staff, health care assistants and agency nurses who come over too. As the senior you are responsible for everyone. We have a good team here, most of the staff have been here for a while and know what they are doing. It makes me feel secure when I’m working with people who know the place, and is reassuring to new team members too.

What attracted you to come and work at Ramsay?

Before joining Ramsay I worked in a nursing home and my husband worked in Salisbury as a nurse. It was a long way for us to travel to work, so I moved nearer. I didn’t know anything about New Hall when I applied.

What has kept you here?

We have a very good team. We cover everyone, the shift work especially. Most of us have family so covering each other is important. I have been through the evolution of New Hall too over the years working with cosmetic patients, then the introduction of NHS patients, to the more complex patients we treat now.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy being with the patients and giving them the best care. I’m not an office person, so this role is perfect for me. I enjoy chatting with patients and looking after them. I am clinical and enjoy bedside nursing.

Do you feel Ramsay supports its employees in accessing training and development opportunities to progress their careers? Any personal examples?

Yes, definitely. I’m moving into a new role soon, and found it reassuring there will be training to support me.

What makes New Hall a special place to work, and how would you describe the culture?

The patients are the focus of our work, it is a very nice environment. It feels like nurses spend more time with patients, and the big difference is the care we give here. It’s exceptional. Patients feel safe. We support them through the whole journey.

We have had good support from the Hospital Director and Senior Management team too.

What benefits will the new development bring to New Hall?

The new development will extend the service and accommodate more patients.

We really value our people at Ramsay Health Care, tell us how you benefit from this culture in your work life balance with us?

They have supported me so much, and been so flexible. I have family, I work every other day.

It’s one of the reason I stayed here for so long because they have been so supportive in helping me balance work and family.

Join our great team
