Meet Jolanta Kajota, Health Care Assistant at New Hall Hospital

Can you tell me about your role and your place in the team?

I started at New Hall in 2015. I am a Health Care Assistant. We have a good culture of people working together and helping each other.

What attracted you to come and work at Ramsay?

I didn't know anything about Ramsay before I worked here. I came to the UK with no English and with a little child so I couldn’t work days. I worked in care because of the hours. Then I went to work in a nursing home. I don’t have a nursing background.

When I came to the UK I didn’t know this hospital, my English wasn’t very good at first. I worked on the Ward. My experiences from working in care helped a lot.

What has kept you here?

The teamwork mainly. I like the shifts, my work life balance is good. They give me a choice. I never have problems if I have appointments. We can plan quite well. The variety of shift patterns is flexible, and benefits people with different commitments at home.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Here it is quite varied. You learn more, your knowledge is wider. The contact you have with different specialists helps you learn. You learn skills from others you work with too, as they have a wide range of knowledge. I like that the job is not just caring for patients, it is so much more. It has a clinical side too.

Do you feel Ramsay supports its employees in accessing training and development opportunities to progress their careers? Any personal examples?

For someone who wants to develop it is good to start here. If you want to study you can, the development is very good. Ramsay is very happy to give opportunities for everyone and support them. There are lots of different departments depending on your preference and specialism. I can work on different departments if they need the staff, it is a big benefit for the company as well as me.

What makes New Hall a special place to work, and how would you describe the culture?

The team work and the people around me. I’m not alone, I have support from others. I can approach management. The setting is very nice, I like it. It’s interesting because you do different types of work both in the office and with patients.

We really value our people at Ramsay Health Care, tell us how you benefit from this culture in your work life balance with us?

Some days very busy and you have to work under pressure, but we have time and we can catch up. We always find time to update our knowledge, and always work to ensure the patient feels valued.
