Clinical interests
Lumbar:- Endoscopic lumbar disc microdiscectomy, lumbar discectomy, lumbar decompression surgery, minimal invasive spine fusion, radical decompression with stabilisation (TOPS), TDR (Total disc replacement), pain injections. Cervical: Anterior decompression and fusion, posterior decompression, surgery for myelopathy, fractures, tumours and sepsis.
Mr Fowler has been interested in spinal surgery for over 30 years and a consultant spinal surgeon for over 20.
His major interest is in Minimal Intervention Spinal Surgery (MISS). He is also a trainer on MISS courses.
Mr Fowler has been performing endoscopic spinal surgery (keyhole) since 2010. This surgery is performed with patients awake. They are generally able to go home 2 hours post operation.
He is senior and lead spinal surgeon at University Hospital Southampton – one of the biggest hospitals in the UK with a team of 8 spinal surgeons.
All areas of spinal surgery are managed and treated. Mr Fowler has close links with all the peripheral hospitals in the region and manages their emergency conditions out of hours.
